My Big, Fat, Hairy Goals for the New Year
Let me begin with this, call it disclaimer if you like:
Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence. -Vince Lombardi
I was torn between writing this post and not writing. Or writing and not publishing. Because some of it scares me to my very bones.
Like the saying goes, growth only happens when you leave your comfort zone.
I’ve had some time to think, ponder, pray and brainstorm over my goals for the new year. Some may just be wishful thinking, but since its on my vision board, then it deserves to be here.
As I talked about goal setting, Le Hubs told me he had a template that I could use. Because i’m very kind, I’d put it up here. *wide grin*

Career & Vocation/ Business
I used it and drawing inspiration from Katya’s 52 bucket list ideas, I decided to put my goals in pictures.
1. Spirituality & Ethical Goals
Anybody who knows my Dad would agree with me that reading through the Bible each year is a BIG deal. Sometimes, we would read just because we know Daddy would ask, “So where are you now in your Bible reading?” Hahaha. You must tell him something o.
So, I want to read through at least once this year. Some devotionals have it as a footnote. Check here if you want some flexible plans.
Prayers & Confessions
The Godfessions book by Goke Coker has really impacted my prayer life. You can’t pray for one thing, while your lips speak the opposite. I recommend it for any one who wishes a turn around in life, academics, etc.
2. Family, Home, Emotions & Relationships
This section is so dear to me because the woman is the home maker. So in as much as I do stuff to further my career and make money, I must not let this aspect go to waste.
Create a Nurturing Environment.
Having a clean and beautiful home that all the members of my family would want to be in. A place of rest and comfort. It’s not in the expensive tapestry and china plates (even though having some won’t hurt!), the idea is to have a place that exudes warmth and love. Dream kitchen on point!
Raise Godly children
The children are a product of what you invest in them. Taking the time to pray with them and sing gospel songs and play activities is something I look forward to doing this year. Let them watch me pray and study God’s Word by myself and during Morning Devotions.
Creating time alone with Le Hubs is a priority this year. Work schedules, children and every other engagement will not allow it if I don’t intentionally plan for it. Once a month, we should have time to be alone together and rediscover each other again. A nice walk, movie night, something sha….
3. Mental/Educational Personal Development
The gap between where I am now and where I hope to be is filled with how much I can learn.
Reading is something I want to do consciously this year. A target of 2 books per month is not so shabby. To produce fresh and relevant content, I need to read wide. Inspirational, marketing, leadership, business, Biographies and Autobiographies, etc The knowledge gleaned from them can only yield fruits in 100 fold.
Take a Communications Course
Hmmmm. I need to take a course, preferably one in Communications. To establish myself as an authority in the field. Before people start wondering what a graduate of Human Anatomy Bsc, is doing writing e-courses.(Sshhh). You didn’t hear that.
Look out for more blogging courses like the one Elna Cain offers for freelance writers. It’s in-depth and she breaks it down so well. JOn Morrow’s Guestblogging course really helped me land my first guest post. Want to know how? Find out here.
Identify and connect with Mentors/Coaches
Its proven that people that have coaches/mentors excel beyond their peers. If it means getting different mentors for the different aspects of my life, then its worth doing.
Have Periodic Retreats
Have quiet moments without phones, or social media, or mummy hugging kids (love my boys!) to think.
Without such moments, one can never know how far you have come or how well you have done. If I can’t have that once a month, I’d try it every quarter.
Yes, its under mental development. Going for vacations is not only for pleasure. It broadens your horizon, exposes you to new places and cultures, you get to learn new ways of doing things. So i’m moving over to the Bahamas for some serious learning. Wuhoooo.
To ensure optimum well being.
Good food and
This baby bump must be flattened out in Jesus’ name. Hahahaha.
- Include medical checks and going to the hospital for proper checks. (no self-medication and Panadol, solving everything)
Even though, I know I have a lot to work on, in balancing my time with work, If i don’t achieve the perfect balance of 8-8-8, (8 hours work, 8 hours family/recreation and 8 hours sleep), then I’d be close.
5. Social/Cultural Situations & the community
This addresses areas of giving back to the society.
You cannot be truly fulfilled until you have made a positive impact in the life of someone else. It could be in monetary gifts and donations, it could be volunteering, anything that you do not with the mind of making profits but truly meeting a need. I want to explore mentoring this year.
There are so many young people who need the right counsel to help them move in the right direction. I am a product of many people who helped me especially in my teens and young adult stage. I would like to offer that to the younger generation. I know I’m work in progress, but there are people who are where I once was, and I can offer my experience.
An opportunity for that has come up. NIFES has a mentoring program whereby associates visit these schools and help build them giving whatever coaching support they have. I’m excited to be paired with a school and I believe God will do wonders through it. If you are interested in mentoring, please let me know.
The other group of people that will benefit from the mentoring program are the Preachers’ kids (aka Pastor pikin).
These set of people are peculiar. Because of the ministry of their parents, they are expected to live up to standards that are sometimes unattainable. This can lead to rebellion on one extreme or hypocrisy on the other hand. If you are a Preacher’s Kid or you know of one, please join us here.
6. Career & Vocation/Business
This is the biggggggggg one. Having launched this blog last month/year, this year has so many wonderful things in store.
- The No 1 Resource centre for women especially the African Woman
- Create e-courses and membership programs
- Award winning Blogger, (Amen o)
- Become No 1 Best Selling Author across categories
Yessssssss. It shall happen.
This is so straight forward. A net income of $100,000.
And let the church say, Amen!
The thought of laying it out here, having it on display is chilling. A little voice whispers, what if they don’t happen?
Well, the working of it is not entirely in my hands, He said, “Ask, and you shall receive”. And that is what I have done.
