There are so many thoughts on finding purpose.
How you can find it, where you can find it and what to do if you don’t.
One thing I’ve come to realize is that you don’t achieve it in slapping up a to-do list. Neither does cramming your calendar full of activities get you anywhere.
The key to finding purpose is to LISTEN.
Listen to your heart
There is a reason why songwriters and music lovers block out the noise with a headphone when they want to concentrate and listen.
In the noise of media and all things social, you need to consciously create a quiet space to reflect.
Take a pause for a moment and listen. What do you feel pained about? What problem in the world exists that you wish something could be done about?
What subject matter gets you excited and exasperated at the same time?
That could be a pointer.
What do you wish you could do if everything were possible? This is not just about money…
Someone shared the story of Jovita Inyang, a Nigerian lady who felt pained about the quantity of food she was served whenever she had to eat at a restaurant. She had complained and made issues until one day she decided to do something about it.
She launched her own eatery where the quality was top notch, it wouldn’t break the bank to eat there and you wouldn’t be able to finish her food. Literally.
That is the story of Jevinik and how it came into being.
And whoever has visited any of the shop outlets would testify to that quality being served time and time again.
That’s not all.
Shauna Harper and Selena Young are also examples of people who started a successful business out of frustration. When the dynamic duo noticed that it was hard to find unique and stylish Greek apparel, they created Define Me Greek, an online boutique specializing in signature definition tees for a variety of sororities and fraternities.
Listen to your head
There’s wisdom inside of you.
How can what you know, solve a problem?
This is about your reasoning. What are you most equipped to handle?
What is your area of expertise? What experience do you have that is something you can draw from to enrich the life of others?
It is usually in the place of quietness that we hear these things.
You obviously went through training for a reasoning.
There is a purpose why you studied the course you did. Or why you have the work experience that you have.
Nothing exists in a vacuum. Be more aware of yourself.
That’s why I say – Listen.
Be more intuitive as to what goes on in your head and heart.
Listen to your support system
Sometimes, we can be oblivious to the most obvious of things.
In other words, we can be blind to the things that others can see so glaringly about us.
You can ask those close to you honest questions about what they feel you are gifted at doing.
Their answers might surprise you.
Sometimes, parents have an uncanny knowledge about the strengths of children and groom them in that regard.
A classic example of this is Selena and Venus Williams who were coached by their Father. Tiger Woods also is another example. It was told that his father noticed that as a child, whenever Tiger was thrown a ball, he would look for something to hit it with instead of kicking it.
Quite remarkable. And so he decided to present that opportunity to the young boy Tiger to develop himself as a golfer. We all know how successful he is as a golfer and as of today, he has held the World’s No 1 player for a total of 683 weeks.
So how intuitive are those around you?
Surround yourself with the very best.
Listen to God
God knows who you are and who you should be at every point in your life.
He told Jeremiah
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before
thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee,
and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jer 1:5
God is the Master Creator.
It doesn’t matter what circumstances brought you into the world. You were thought of by God.
Like Jimi Tewe says in his book, The Purpose Book,
He (God) considered the future of mankind and intentionally designed you to be released in a generation. This establishes the truth that your expression on earth is always a solution to men.
There is a reason you were born now not 10 years ago or 20 years in the future.
There is a solution in your very DNA that the world is waiting for.
So how do you access it?
Go to God in prayer and ask.
What am I here on earth for?
And I’m very certain that He will answer.
