I shared my thoughts on Facebook and my post went viral with over 315 shares. Here’s the original post.
Warning: This is a heartfelt rant. You may not like it.
It was an incident that happened last week Saturday. It was weekend and the children grabbed the remote to watch some cartoons.
When they saw that it was Vamperina showing, they changed it to Jim Jam.
At intervals, we tried to go back to Disney Junior but kept going off. Overall, they streamed Vamperina for almost two hours.
Since its inception, I have not let my boys watch it. Try to avoid the advert also as much as possible.
The boys even know to change the channel or report the other person who is watching it.
I don’t subscribe to the idea that a vampire girl is normal and can be friends with children in school or at home.
It’s bad enough that they’ve sold us the idea of Sophia the first. A magical story of Enchantia, where horses fly and ghosts appear in the form of fairy princesses to rescue you in time of trouble.
Or even P J Masks where they fight evil ONLY at night. Most children now play-act as Cat-boy, Gecko and Owlette in their homes. Including mine.
Now it’s a full-blown vampire girl that changes from a batish-girl to a vampire bat at night. She lives in a home with ghosts, skeletons and all.
And please don’t tell me “it’s just cartoons”.
When I noticed the major drift of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, I just focused on the others for the good of my children.
These pictures and sounds form deep rooted impressions in the minds of children.
I watch the shows with my kids when I’m around and I can tell you that the children don’t just watch pictures.
They listen and try to imitate.
When you shudder at teens who behave without natural affection and you wonder where they’ve come from.
Your answer might just be in your living room.
You hear of unthinkable atrocities committed by teenagers and young people and the world suddenly doesn’t look like a safe place anymore.
I believe that there’s a deliberate agenda to force-feed children these anti-human shows.
Do you know that Art Attack – the show that is full of practical arts and craft now airs at 1 am?
I originally thought the show had stopped airing until I stumbled on it one night.
Which child will be awake to learn art at 1am?
Why didn’t they push this “Vamperina” to that time?
It all boils down to sponsorship. The And you can’t totally blame the Cable providers. They are there for business.
And like they say, he who pays the piper, dictates the tune.
So some people have taken an interest in changing the ideology of children and are sponsoring programs with that agenda.
Here’s one thing though.

This is a public appeal to bring back wholesome, educative programs for children.
So glad my boys are growing up.
Their love for music is being explored.
TV time is gradually reducing.
With time, it’d be non-existent with only select programs when all their time is taken up with music, sports and family games.
It’s time for parents to take control.
It’s not a crime for the TV to be turned off.
In some houses, it’s constantly on, whether anybody is there or not.
Media is a tool for driving change and it’s so subtle you won’t know it’s happening until it’s done.
If you take the shows you watch as a seed, then you can extrapolate on your eventual harvest.
What seems like harmless fun and comedy won’t look so funny now.
I have no words for those who let children watch African Magic or certain music/reality shows.
I hope you’d be proud of yourself in 10, 15 years.
This was long but necessary.
Damage control isn’t always the best. Prevention is always better than cure. Please share this post if you think it can make a difference in one child’s life.
PS: I’d love to hear your comments on creating wholesome entertainment for our children or your experience raising children in the 21st century.
