Christmas is a season of love, light and festivities.
But for some, it’d be a reminder of what they’ve lost in 2017.
It could be the death of a loved one, or loss of job, debilitating sickness or some unforeseen circumstances that have taken the joy from their lives.
I got together with my amazing friends and we decided to share some memories that will warm your heart and bring back smiles this Christmas.
Christmas a few years back when I was living in Scotland it snowed so bad I couldn’t get my car out of my street but one way or the other I had to get to work.
I couldn’t get taxis as most of them had been snowed in as well. Walking was not an option maybe it would have taken me a good few hours to get there but I would have probably looked like snowman by the time I arrive there
So I got my brother, a shovel and we got to work. We managed to get the car out of our street but when we got to the bottom of the street, the next road was just as bad if not worse.
As we were trying to come up with plan B the car started to move I mean rolling back because we forgot to put the hand-break on.
(When I say “we” I mean me , yes I admit it ok!!! But let’s stick with we for now)
We started chasing the car – Now picture this 2 grown human beings running after a car and me screaming “stoooop!“
As if the car was going to listen to my commands !!!
Off it rolled right where we began!!!
Arrgghh! Forget Plan B we back to Plan A.
At this point my hands are literally frozen my brother is shaking his head, his hands, feet are frozen even his hair was frozen !!! The car had rolled off track we dug earlier so we were completely stuck again.
Anyway, I thought the heavens were breathing down on me to have a day off. This idea made me smile – well at least I had tried let’s forward this to Plan C …. Call work tell them you I’m stuck in snow enjoy an unplanned day off ie watch Netflix all day long and drink a nice cup of tea.
Work will see me when snow is over and if I’m lucky maybe next year in the new year (The things I tell myself to make me feel better LOL )
Whilst I’m caught up in my thoughts work telephoned me -(They beat me to it) and said they had secured transport for me if I can make my way to the main road. Aaaaghhhh bye bye Netflix and a nice cup of tea, no unplanned day off today … Maybe next year I thought to myself as I was leaving the house making my way to the main road!!
By the way, my mother’s birthday is December 25th
Snowflake: Patricia Osburn
As beautiful as snowflakes are, its so hard to fathom them as having such derogatory meaning. One positive characteristic about the snowflake is that not one is ever the same. Snowflakes are formed by dust particles in the air that are attracted to very cold-water droplets in clouds. Thus, water droplets freeze and in turn produce [snow] snowflakes. There is said to be over 80 variated types of snowflakes in existence. My initial encounter with snow left me mesmerized. It wasn’t until I moved to South Korea that I witnessed its beauty, that left me in awe. It was so white. And, so pure. I found myself doing stupid childish things, like licking snow from leaves, and even parked cars. I was in my moment. Until I saw it turn slushy, sludgy, black. It had transformed; little did I know it would turn into ice! We are all one of a kind. Naysayers may say you are insignificant. You may feel down trodden because you may not be where you desire to be in life, right now. But you still have your resilience to be bright and mesmerizing. No matter what season of the year it may be. Find joy and life in life’s simple pleasures. And slide gleefully on your own ice, under the glory cloud of the Father. Because he promises that He does “new things”, and that they shall “spring forth” in wilderness, rivers, and deserts [Isaiah 43:19]. Happy New Year!
Oh my God! Laughing out loud as I remember this fateful Christmas.
Can’t really remember the year, but I was still in High school. It was our Christmas party in the church, after the party, we were told to wait behind to clean up.
Being a PK (Pastor’s kid), we were in the church until evening almost every service day. We had to stay back to either clean or arrange the church.
On that fateful day, I remember telling my parents I wanted to go read for my exam and also wash my school uniform, whereas I had another agenda.
I was going to watch a soap opera I had been following titled No One But You.
That’s how my village people caught up with me and I forgot to collect the house key. I had left the church in such a hurry that I completely forgot to collect the keys to the house.
When I found out I didn’t have the keys, I was upset and frustrated at the same time. I sat at the entrance fuming at my misery and didn’t know when I slept off.
The next thing I felt was something cold beside my neck. I opened my eyes to see these two men holding a gun to my neck.
Holy Jesus! As I screamed Jesus, they told me to calm down but to take them to my house, I gently told them I wasn’t with the key and that’s why I was outside.
I started doing true confession that “I ran from church and did not collect key o! That God is my witness, but I can run back to church for the key”. 😁
The one holding the gun just hit it on my head and I shouted Jesus! Again.
That’s how they now told me to take them to our neighbour house o! As a good girl concerned, I quietly obeyed my elders and led the way to my neighbor’s house.
They were the ones that knocked while I talked. Chai! I suffered that day ehn. That moment my neighbor asked who was there. I answered and they opened and the rest is history.
After robbing my neighbor we were all asked to face down and pray, I was told to pray and ask for forgiveness. 😁
We didn’t get up till another neighbor came to knock and check if all is well, she said she saw two men running out of the gate. That’s how we knew the men were gone.
I quietly and soberly walked downstairs only for me to see my family returning from church. I cried and narrated all that happened and my mom was just danced and praised God, while others said that it served me right since I ran from church to avoid joining the cleanup.
My dad said my mom should take me for skull X-ray to see if there was no crack. My brother said they should check to see if my brain is still functioning well. (rotfl)
Can’t forget that Christmas’s ever, those my neighbors avoided me like the plague and kept telling everyone I brought thieves to their house.
Since then, I became a very good and obedient child. No more running away from Jesus’ house.
Hahahaha. This was a funny one.
I smile as I write this after so many years, but one thing is certain…
we could all do with a Christmas miracle.
